Just recently I've visited the COMPLAINTS FORUM on dA and stumbled across a person complaining about how they couldn't understand why people give underaged drinkers such a hard time about heir choices to consume alcohol.

For me that's a whole can of fresh worms because my whole family drinks and so the effects of alcoholism has always been an issue for me and my Mom.

So here is what I wrote in reply to this person's inquiery into the reasons behind the world's general dislike of underage drinkers:




Most teenagers don't understand why the world has a problem with underage drinking, because the only way they can understand is to look at it from an adult's point of view:

ADULTs have a hard enough controlling the substance so how can anyone expect hormonally unbalanced, judgment hindered, inexperienced-at-live in general teenagers to control it?

Not to mention, alcohol is a drug in itself and shouldn't be used by anybody, adult or no. Wrecks more lives then it helps.

Believe me; if anyone had an alcoholic father like mine they wouldn't touch booze with a 10-ft pole. Playing with TNT would be safer and at least only one-self would get hurt, instead of bringing the drunken self home to make the rest of the family suffer too.

So there's the problem. Adults shouldn't touch it let alone teenagers. Might seem like innocent fun when you're young, but then you'll find yourself addicted to the stuff when you're older, like a drug, then going it into a marriage or on your kids. Then it's not just your problem anymore.
Think anyone's proud their Mom or Pop's a drunk?
Plus alcoholism can be passed onto the kids through their drunken parent's genes, making their kids all that more likely to become drunks too.

That would be the reason my brother's followed in my dad's footsteps, made himself a fine alcoholic too.

Believe me, my family's a living example of why staying away from alcohol altogether's the best course of action, nevermind wondering why the world picks on drunks and teenage drinking.
